Mehendi is a long event. You’re sitting in one place for an hour or more while the mehendi artist works on your hands. Then there’s food, music, photos with guests, and sometimes a small performance. The makeup needs to be light enough that you’re comfortable through all of that, but polished enough for the photos that’ll end up on Instagram.

I keep the base fresh and natural for mehendi. Light coverage, dewy finish, and a focus on glowing skin rather than a full-coverage look. Your mehendi outfit is usually colourful (greens, pinks, yellows, oranges), and the makeup should complement those colours without competing with them.

For the eyes, I work with the colours in your outfit. If you’re wearing a green lehenga, I might do a soft gold and bronze eye with a pop of colour on the lower lash line. I always schedule my arrival so you’re fully ready, hair, makeup, draping, everything, before the mehendi artist begins. The timing matters, and I coordinate with the mehendi artist so there’s no overlap.

Wear your outfit before sitting for mehendi. Changing clothes after mehendi is a nightmare for fresh paste. I drape your saree or set your lehenga before the mehendi session starts so you don’t have to worry about it later.

Keep a setting spray in your bag. I do a thorough setting at the end, but if your mehendi runs for 4 to 5 hours, a quick spritz midway can freshen things up. I leave one with you if you need it.

My go-to mehendi hairstyles are a loose side braid with fresh flowers woven in, a half-up half-down with soft curls, or a messy low bun with jasmine. I avoid tight, pulled-back styles for mehendi because you’re going to be sitting for a long time and a tight hairstyle can give you a headache.

Fresh flowers work beautifully with mehendi outfits. Gajra, mogra, or small colourful flowers tucked into the braid or bun tie the whole look together. I include fresh flowers in every booking.
