Who is Sider Makeup For?

Sider makeup (also called family makeup or bridesmaid makeup) is for anyone who’s part of the bridal party or the immediate family and wants professional makeup for the wedding events. This typically includes:

The bride’s sisters and cousins who are by her side at every event. The mother of the bride or groom who wants to look elegant and polished. Bridesmaids and close friends who are part of the ceremony. Aunts or other family members who want professional makeup for the big day.

I do sider makeup alongside the bride’s booking. While the bride’s hairstyling is being completed, I start on the first sider. This keeps the timing tight and ensures everyone is ready on schedule without needing a separate makeup artist.

How Sider Looks Work with the Bride’s Look

The most important rule: siders should complement the bride, not compete with her. The bride is the star. Everyone else should look beautiful but not more dressed up than the bride.

I keep sider looks elegant and polished but slightly softer than the bridal look. If the bride is doing a full glam eye with heavy shimmer, the sisters might get a lighter shimmer with less intensity. If the bride is doing a bold red lip, the bridesmaids might go with a softer rose or nude. The looks tie together visually without anyone overshadowing the bride.

I also match the sider looks to the event. For the haldi, everyone gets a fresh, light look. For the sangeet, the bridesmaids can go a little bolder since it’s a party. For the wedding ceremony, the family looks are elegant and traditional. Everything is coordinated.

Indian Bridesmaid Makeup Looks

Indian bridesmaid looks are different from Western ones. In Indian weddings, the bridesmaids and sisters are often wearing heavy lehengas or sarees with statement jewellery. The makeup needs to work with these outfits, not against them.

For a classic Indian bridesmaid look, I do a flawless base, warm-toned eyes with shimmer, defined brows, a soft wing, and a lip that complements the outfit colour. It’s polished and camera-ready without being as intense as the bridal look.

For South Indian wedding siders, I adjust for the Kanjeevaram sarees and temple jewellery that the family is typically wearing. The makeup stays warm-toned with gold shimmer to complement the silk and gold.

For the mother of the bride, I keep the look more understated and age-appropriate. A luminous base (not heavy or matte), soft eyes, and a classic lip. The goal is elegant and youthful without being overly made-up.

Timing and Logistics

Each sider look takes about 30 to 40 minutes (makeup + hair + draping). I plan the schedule so I start with the bride first, and while the bride’s hairstyling is being set, I move to the first sider. For multiple siders, I stagger the timing so everyone is done before the event starts.

For example, if the wedding ceremony is at 11 AM and I have the bride + 2 siders, I arrive by 7 AM. Bride starts at 7, first sider at 8:30, second sider at 9:15. Everyone is ready by 10:30 with buffer time. I share a detailed timing plan before the event so there’s no confusion.

If you have more than 3 siders, let me know early so I can plan accordingly. For large bridal parties (5+ people), I may bring an assistant to keep things on schedule.
