A maternity shoot and a baby shower need different makeup approaches, even though both happen during pregnancy. A baby shower is an event with guests, so the makeup needs to look good in person. A maternity shoot is entirely for the camera, which changes the product choices, the intensity, and the finish.

For a maternity shoot, I build the makeup specifically for how it photographs. The base has a luminous, dewy finish that catches light beautifully and gives that “glowing from within” effect that maternity photos are known for. The contour is slightly more defined because the camera flattens dimension. The highlight is more strategic because it creates that ethereal glow in photos.

The overall vibe is soft, radiant, and beautiful. Maternity photos are intimate and emotional. The makeup should enhance that feeling, not overpower it.

Indoor vs Outdoor Maternity Shoots

The setting of your shoot changes the makeup approach:

Outdoor golden hour shoots: This is the most popular choice in Navi Mumbai. The warm evening light is incredibly flattering, and I go with a dewy, luminous base that catches that golden light. The eye makeup stays soft with warm shimmer, and the lip is a natural tone. Locations like Kharghar Hills, Palm Beach Road, and open grounds near Panvel are beautiful for this.

Studio shoots: With controlled lighting, I can be more precise. The base can be slightly more defined, the highlight more strategically placed, and the contour adjusted for the specific lighting setup. Studio shoots allow for more creative looks if you want them.

Home shoots: Some moms-to-be prefer the intimacy of a home shoot. Natural window light is beautiful for maternity photos, and I adjust the makeup for softer, more diffused lighting. The approach is lighter and more natural.

I coordinate with your photographer when possible so the makeup complements the lighting plan and the overall mood of the shoot.

Pregnancy-Safe Product Approach

I use the same pregnancy-mindful approach as my baby shower service. No heavily fragranced products, hypoallergenic formulas wherever possible, and products from trusted brands. I adjust for any skin changes you’re experiencing: hormonal breakouts, melasma, increased sensitivity, or dryness. If you have specific product concerns, let me know before the session.

Outfit Changes and On-Set Support

Most maternity shoots involve 2 to 3 outfit changes: a flowing gown or dress, a traditional saree, and sometimes a casual look with the partner. I stay on set throughout the shoot to handle lip colour changes, base touch-ups, hair adjustments, and draping between outfits.

For the first look, I do a full application. For subsequent looks, I adjust the existing makeup rather than starting over to keep the skin feeling fresh and comfortable. I also do basic grooming for the partner (skin evening, shine control) if needed.

Comfort is the priority throughout. If you need to sit down, take a break, have water, or rest between looks, we take the time. The shoot works around you, not the other way around.
