How I Approach Muslim Bridal Makeup

When a dupatta or hijab is part of the bridal look, the face is framed very specifically. The forehead may be partially or fully covered, and the focus shifts almost entirely to the eyes, the cheekbones, and the lips. I design Muslim bridal looks knowing that the eye makeup is going to do most of the talking.

For the nikah, I go with a flawless, luminous base and then build defined, beautiful eyes. The style depends on your preference and your outfit. Some brides want classic kajal-heavy eyes with a smoky effect. Others prefer a softer, more modern look with warm shimmer and a clean wing. I’ve done both for Muslim brides in Navi Mumbai and the key is matching the eye intensity to the rest of the look so nothing feels out of balance.

The lip colour for a nikah look is usually warm and complimentary to the outfit. If you’re wearing a deep red or maroon sharara, I might go with a nude-rose lip so the eyes stay the focus. If the outfit is lighter (pastel pink, mint, ivory), a deeper lip can look gorgeous. I always plan the colour story during the trial so there are no surprises on the day.

Muslim Bridal Eye Makeup

This is where I spend the most time and attention on a Muslim bridal look. Here are the styles I typically do:

For a classic nikah eye: defined kajal on upper and lower waterline, a warm gold or champagne shimmer on the lid, a deeper shade in the crease (chocolate brown, burgundy, or plum), a sharp wing, and full lashes. This is the timeless Muslim bridal eye that looks regal and photographs beautifully.

For a modern nikah eye: softer kajal (just the upper waterline or tightline), a blended shimmer across the lid, a soft smoky crease with no hard lines, and a subtle wing. This looks elegant and fresh, and it’s becoming very popular with younger brides.

For a glam nikah eye: full smoky eye with deep tones (black, charcoal, deep plum), heavy shimmer on the centre of the lid, a dramatic wing, and stacked lashes. This is for brides who want maximum impact, especially for the walima or reception.

I always do a few different eye looks during the trial so you can see what suits your face shape and eye shape best. Some brides have hooded eyes or deep-set eyes, and the technique changes for each. Getting this right during the trial means the wedding day goes smoothly.

Hijab and Dupatta Styling

How the dupatta or hijab is draped changes how the makeup looks. A dupatta pulled forward over the forehead frames the face tightly and makes the eyes even more prominent. A loosely draped dupatta shows more of the hair and forehead, which means the brow shape and forehead highlight become more important.

I style the dupatta or hijab as part of every Muslim bridal booking. I pin it securely so it doesn’t shift during the nikah ceremony, especially during the dua and when you’re signing the nikahnama. I use pearl pins, brooches, or hidden pins depending on the fabric and your preference.

For brides who wear a hijab, I adjust the makeup to account for the frame around the face. The contour placement shifts slightly, and I bring the blush a bit higher on the cheekbones so it’s visible within the hijab frame. The highlight goes on the centre of the nose and the high points of the cheeks where the light naturally hits.

If your nikah outfit has a separate dupatta and you want a different draping style for the walima or reception, I restyle it as part of the touch-up service.

Nikah and Walima: Separate Looks

Many Muslim weddings have two main events: the nikah (the ceremony) and the walima (the reception/celebration). These are usually on different days, sometimes even a week apart. I offer separate full looks for each event at ₹14,000 per look.

The nikah look is usually more elegant and understated. Soft, radiant base, defined eyes, graceful lip. The walima is where you can go more glamorous, with a bolder eye, a richer lip, and maybe a different dupatta style. I plan both looks together so they feel connected but distinct.

If both events happen on the same day (which is common for intimate nikah ceremonies), I do the nikah look first and then a colour-adjusted touch-up with a hairstyle or dupatta change for the walima at ₹8,500.
